What are RF Containers? |
RF are an abbreviation for refrigerated containers or, simply said, these are containers to transport cargo that need a temperature control between -30ºC (-22º F) to 30ºC(86ºF). Every RF container needs a refrigeration unit on one of its sides and it is also necessary to connect it to a power source. Reefers are used to transport meat (frozen and chilled), seafood, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, processed food, pharmaceuticals, and beverages, among others.

Typically, reefer containers have higher costs to ship it than conventional containers and to dray it as well. Several factors influence these higher costs, including high demand and operational factors.

Can a Refrigerated Container Move Dry Cargo? |
The answer is yes. The so-called non-operating reefers (NOR) are designed to transport dry cargo and avoid the return of an empty container in the ocean. In order to avoid any waste for the container owner, the refrigeration unit is turned off to transport dry cargo.

How to Reduce RF Container price |
Many shippers are concerned on how to reduce their cost to ship reefer containers. Especially in the United States, the inland freight can be really significant. Every truck transporting a refrigerated container will need a ‘genset’ or generator set for the unit at an additional cost. If shipping to/from the US and Europe, Kim Line relies on a vast network of partnerships to ship and ray refrigerated cargo. Call us at +1 (908) 238-3313 to learn more
